Recommended private driver in Siem Reap

Last Updated on February 20, 2026 by Home in the World

So you’ve booked a bucket-list trip to Cambodia. Now it’s time to figure out how to best see the likes of Angkor Wat and the other ancient temples – and perhaps even venture into other parts of the country, such as Sihanoukville, Kampot and indeed the capital, Phnom Penh.

One of the best and most comfortable ways to do this is by using a private driver/guide. And if you’re looking for a private driver in Siem Reap who can do all of the above and more, I have the perfect suggestion for you. Read on to hear about my personal experience and who I highly recommend as a private driver in Siem Reap and beyond.

My initial contact with Sa

When planning my trip to Cambodia, I did what you have probably just been doing right now: I googled ‘private driver in Siem Reap’. And one of the top search results took me to Trip Advisor, where I was immediately impressed by a local service provider by the name of Sa Sok, who had some 450 reviews, all of which were 5 out of 5.

And the common thread among all reviews was that Sa and his team were friendly, professional, safe drivers delivering an exceptional Cambodian travel experience for everyone who used their services.

I was in. So I promptly sent off an email with my initial request about a private tour of the Angkor temples and a private overland transfer from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh. I had a response – written in perfect English and outlining everything clearly – within literally a few minutes.

Wow, a refreshing change from many companies where you often have to chase several times to get a half-satisfactory reply. I had the whole Siem Reap part of my trip sorted within about an hour of me sending my first email.

As the trip drew nearer, I also asked Sa about potential private sightseeing tours in Phnom Penh, as well as an airport transfer to Phnom Penh airport. Every single request I sent, without exception, was responded to competently and efficiently. It really filled me with confidence going into the trip, as I strongly felt I was in good hands.

I was also astonished at Sa’s trusting approach. Not once was there any prepayment required; I didn’t even have to provide any details to guarantee my bookings. So far, the ~450 positive reviews on Trip Advisor were proving to be very accurate indeed.

My experience with Sa’s company in Cambodia

When we finally got to Cambodia, Sa reconfirmed everything to me by email, and we were lucky enough to have him himself as our driver for our Angkor temple tour. He was ready and waiting outside our hotel at the appointed time with a big smile and cheerful greeting.

Based on the helpful earlier advice he had given me prior to leaving Australia, I had booked the Angkor entry tickets online, which made the whole process so much more streamlined.

Sa drove us around so many of the beautiful temples in the Angkor complex, catering to our needs, clearly explaining where to meet each time, and always with bottles of cold water at the ready in the car. This was truly fabulous, as I was travelling with my parents, so wanted to make things as comfortable and streamlined as possible.

And speaking of cars, Sa gives you the option of a Lexus SUV or, for a slightly higher cost, a larger minivan. We had booked the SUV but as Sa had a minivan available at the time, we ended up in that, which was an added bonus.

A few days later, it was time for us to head to Phnom Penh, and on this occasion we had booked a minivan, because we had luggage and wanted more space for the long journey. Sa may bill himself as a private driver in Siem Reap, but he offers transport services all across Cambodia. He is headquartered in Siem Reap but, together with his team of drivers, he can take you wherever you want to go.

I had even read some reviews saying they had driven across the Thai and Vietnam borders with Sa’s drivers. So you’re definitely not just limited to Siem Reap when it comes to Sa and his fantastic company!

It was on this 6.5-hour overland journey that we really got to know Sa, as we had ample time to chat. He told us about his background, his family, his struggles and how he started his business some 7 years ago, as well as pointing out interesting information about the places we passed through and talking about Cambodia’s turbulent history – from fascinating Khmer times to the more recent genocide atrocities.

He gave us the opportunity to stop at the beautiful Naga Bridge, which was built at a similar time to the Angkor temples (around 900 years ago) and was one of the most iconic bridges of the Khmer Empire – something we would otherwise never have seen or known about.

And he also knew the perfect place for a toilet stop and refresher break in the form of a large, modern and extremely clean petrol station and minimart facility. We felt so well cared for the whole way. And when we finally reached our hotel in Phnom Penh, it really felt like we had made a great friend in Sa.

We would not see Sa himself again, as he returned to Siem Reap the next day, but I would continue to liaise with him as he arranged drivers to take us around Phnom Penh and, on our last day, to Phnom Penh airport.

Sa’s company is a family business, and every driver on his team is someone he knows and trusts deeply. Indeed, both drivers we had in Phnom Penh were extremely obliging and friendly, their vehicles were clean and comfortable, and in general we felt entirely safe and confident with them.

We organised 2 half-day sightseeing tours of Phnom Penh, which made it so easy and convenient to see the city, not to mention in a manner tailored to our interests and needs, without having to worry about navigating the hectic traffic or, in some parts, streets that were not totally conducive to walking.

What Sa and his team can do for you

As mentioned, if you’re looking for a private driver in Siem Reap, Sa has you covered – whether it’s a tour of the world-famous Angkor Wat and surrounding temples, or other locations in and around the town (lakes, bird sanctuaries and more).

But don’t think you’re limited to Siem Reap, because Sa’s company is actually a one-stop shop for your travels anywhere in Cambodia (Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville, Battambang, Kep etc.). They can prepare sample itineraries for you and customise them to suit your requirements.

If you don’t know exactly what you want to do and would like some suggestions, Sa is more than happy to guide you. And even if it’s just a plain old airport transfer, don’t hesitate to contact Sa, because he can arrange that for you too.

Why I recommend Sa as a private driver in Siem Reap (and beyond)

If you’ve read this far, it should already be clear now why I recommend Sa as a private driver in Siem Reap and beyond, but, to reiterate: Sa is the consummate professional who runs one of the best small businesses I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with.

His efficiency is so refreshing, and it is all done with a smile. Sa prides himself on being flexible and catering to his clients’ needs in every way possible, and he more than proved that to us on our trip.

Being a family business, everyone who works for Sa embodies the same work ethic, trustworthiness, focus on safety and comfort, and general friendliness that Sa himself displays, so, even if you don’t get driven around by Sa himself, you can rest assured you’ll be in good hands regardless. His fleet of vehicles are in excellent condition and all his drivers are extremely safe, skilled and reliable.

When travelling anywhere, it’s always nice to try and support local businesses and service providers where possible. Sa is as local as it gets. He is born and raised in the region and knows it, and the rest of his beautiful country, like the back of his hand.

By choosing Sa as your private driver in Siem Reap and beyond, you’ll not only be helping support a wonderful local and his family, but you’re guaranteed to also make a genuine friend out of it too.
