5 wholesome farm experiences in Perth

Last Updated on February 28, 2026 by Home in the World

Farm experiences in Perth might not be the first thing you think about when it comes to Western Australia’s capital, which tends to be better known for its beaches, the iconic Kings Park and the Insta-famous quokkas of Rottnest Island.

But if you’re looking for a slightly more wholesome ‘rural’ vibe, you actually don’t need to venture too far out of the city (indeed some are right in the inner city itself!).

Read on to find out my recommendations, as a local, for some great farm experiences in Perth – perfect for all ages.

Perth City Farm

When I said there were farm experiences in Perth that could be found right in the city centre itself, I really wasn’t lying!

The aptly named Perth City Farm is in East Perth, just a 5-minute drive or train ride from the city centre. It is a long-standing establishment that has been dedicated to creating a community around sustainable living, and also runs a number of workshops. Its premises can similarly be used for functions.

Every Saturday morning, it holds a Farmers Market, which sells organic produce sourced from local growers, as well as eco-friendly home & beauty products made by local artisans. It’s such a lovely vibe, with a mix of regular locals and newcomers.

Regardless of whether you’re visiting for the market or on the other 5 days of the week that City Farm is open, be sure to head around the back and stroll through its market garden, with its wide variety of vegetables, herbs and flowers. You can also explore its living soil centre and recycling hub while you’re at it.

And of course no farm experience would be complete without a few animals. I highly recommend having a peek at the cute chickens in the permaculture enclosure. Some new residents have recently arrived and they are utterly adorable. Their names include Henrietta, Gertrude, Buffy and Hen-Solo, and they all have their own unique personalities!

The garden area similarly features an eclectic array of artwork, from vibrant mosaics to gritty murals to unique sculptures. One of my favourites is the gorgeous textured mosaic piece created in 2023 as part of Deafblind Awareness Week. You’ll find it in a secluded section near the entrance of the garden, under the shade of tree fronds.

And finally, cap your visit off with hearty, farm-to-table goodness in the form of breakfast, brunch or lunch at the on-site Be Free Café. The café is open Mon-Fri 7am-2pm and Sat 7.30am-12.30pm.

If you’re looking for farm experiences in Perth without straying too far from the downtown area, trust me when I say you really cannot go wrong with City Farm. I have visited many, many times over the years and it has never disappointed.

📍 Perth City Farm, 1 City Farm Place, East Perth
🕒 Open: Mon-Fri 9am-3pm, Sat 8am-12pm (Farmers Market every Sat)
🚗 Access: Train (Claisebrook station), Yellow CAT bus (City Farm Place), CPP Royal St car park

Keller’s Farm

Also on the list of recommended farm experiences in Perth is Keller’s Farm.

Just a ~20-minute drive north of Perth city centre, in the semi-rural suburb of Dayton in the Swan Valley, this working farm is open to visitors on the weekend, when it runs its farmer’s market 8am to 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday.

Browse the fresh fruit, vegetables, eggs, preserves, pastries, sourdough and Swiss breads (a nod to the owner’s Swiss heritage) and much more in the rustic market house, before heading out to the boho-style garden and enjoying a snack and coffee in the sunshine. I loved all its quirky art and decorations.

And don’t forget to say hello to the resident ducks, chickens, pigs and cows! A great experience, especially for kids.

I first visited Keller’s Farm a couple of years ago and, on my most recent visit, I really noticed how much it had grown, both in terms of its offering and its popularity.

Definitely one of the more wholesome, family-friendly farm experiences in Perth!

Raeburn Orchards

If your idea of farm experiences in Perth is more about fruit trees, rolling hills and vibrant seasonal colours, I’ve got you covered too.

Located in Roleystone, in the picturesque Perth Hills, Raeburn Orchards is a little further out than some of the other options. But by further out, we’re only talking a 40-minute drive, so it’s easily manageable as a half-day trip and boy, is that trip worth it.

You’re transported far from the hustle and bustle, finding yourself instead in the tranquil, rural surrounds of a gorgeous, family-owned orchard that has been in operation since 1948.

The orchard is open year-round, with a different feel in each season: winter (June-August) is the barest, though still produces the likes of pears, lemons and oranges; spring (September-November) is full of blossoming trees and produce that includes pears, avocados, mandarines, lemons, oranges and apples; and summer (November-April) is all about the stone fruit, featuring mangoes, apricots, plums, pluots, nectarines and peaches.

But my absolute favourite time to visit is autumn (March-May), and the month of May in particular, because that is persimmon season – arguably the most vibrant period of all.

The $5 entry fee for adults (free for kids under 12) allows you to wander the flaming red avenues of persimmon trees and also explore their other fruit trees, taking in the beautiful undulating scenery as you go.

Please note that fruit-picking is not allowed. But you can buy their fresh produce and other handmade crafts in the cute shop area, or enjoy a coffee and homemade cakes, cookies and sweet treats at Coffee @ The Shed. Definitely a good candidate for wholesome farm experiences in Perth!

📍 Raeburn Orchards, 4 Raeburn Road, Roleystone, Perth
🕒 Open: Daily 9am-5pm

Lavender Estate

Of course, farm experiences in Perth don’t necessarily have to revolve around animals or edible produce; sometimes they can also simply be places where beautiful flowers are grown on an industrial scale. And that is precisely the case for Lavender Estate.

This is a boutique lavender farm that also has an on-site restaurant/beer garden, gift shop and children’s playground. It is located in Carabooda, about a 45-minute drive north of Perth city, so once again a little way out but not excessively so – in fact, perfect for a day trip!

Wander the abundant rows of lavender, take a photo with the quirky purple tractor and then settle in to a hearty snack, coffee, craft beer, local wine or a cheeky scoop of ice cream – there are plenty of purple flavours on offer, including lavender, of course. You can sit inside, outside on the deck or even grab a takeaway and set up a picnic on the lawn. The vibe is very relaxed and family-friendly (and dog-friendly).

I also recommend spending some time browsing their cute gift shop, which sells farm-grown wares such as lavender oils, body care products, teas and candles.

If you want to take the countrified farm vibe to the next level, consider booking one of their Devonshire Tea & Distillery Tours, complete with lavender scones.

When is the best time to visit Lavender Estate to see the lavender in full bloom? Generally the summer (November-February), but the property is open year-round and you can still enjoy its rustic vibe no matter when you come. I visited in January and there were definitely plenty of purple blossoms to be seen.

📍 Lavender Estate, 272 Old Yanchep Road, Carabooda, Perth
🕒 Open: Thurs & Fri 9am-4pm, Sat & Sun 8.30am-5pm

Peninsula Farm

Ok, this one might be a bit of a stretch if we’re talking about farm experiences in Perth. But bear with me.

Located on the banks of the Swan River in the inner-city suburb of Maylands, Peninsula Farm was one of the first farms in the colony. The old farmhouse that still stands on the site today was built in 1839, and though it is obviously no longer a working farm, it is open for visits on Fridays and Saturdays from 10.30am to 1pm, allowing people to step back in time and learn about its history; adult tickets are $25 and children $5.

Tucked away behind the old farm is its on-site restaurant, Peninsula Farm Cafe, housed in a tin-roofed building with shady verandah and deck overlooking the river. You could well be in a rural farming area – it’s that secluded and peaceful.

I highly recommend checking out the café while you’re there. The menu consists of organic, seasonal, sustainable produce and is all about being mindfully good. If you want to stick with the farm theme, there are some deliciously chunky farm-style toasties on offer, but there are plenty of other wholesome offerings as well. I have previously tried the smashed avocado with crushed peas, roasted chickpeas and dukkah and it was soooo good!

Chilled riverside vibes in a leafy setting, surrounded by the heritage and history of the old Peninsula Farm. This might be a little off-beat in terms of farm experiences in Perth, but it still definitely ticks the box for rustic wholesomeness.

📍 Peninsula Farm, 2c Johnson Road, Maylands, Perth
🕒 Farm open: Fri & Sat 10.30am-1pm | Café open: Wed-Sun 8am-3pm

Getting to Perth, and where to stay

Ready to book your flights to Perth? I recommend using Skyscanner or Trip.com to find and compare the best fares. Perth is serviced by a number of major airlines, including Emirates, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, Qantas, Cathay Pacific, ANA and many more, with direct flights from Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Europe. Virgin Australia and Qantas also offer numerous daily flights from other parts of Australia. Search for suitable connections below.

If you’re not a Perth local and are still keen to explore these farm experiences in Perth, you are still probably better to look for accommodation in the inner-city area.

This will put you within easy access of Perth City Farm and Peninsula Farm, and within relatively easy access of Keller’s Farm. Raeburn Orchards and Lavender Estate are both further out, but in different directions (Raeburn Orchards is east and Lavender Estate is north). So my tip would be to stay central and make those 2 options your day trips.
