When planning a visit to a new city, one of the most important things to figure out is where to stay. Finding somewhere that fits your budget, ideally gets good traveller reviews, and is well located for accessing local attractions can sometimes be harder than it seems, especially when you have no bearings of the destination.
How I came to choose Fraser Suites Doha
When I first sat down and looked at a map of Doha, there seemed to be hotels scattered all over the place, entire bays apart. I didn’t know whether to opt for areas like The Pearl or West Bay, where many of the luxury hotels you see in the media seemed to be clustered, or closer to the main city district.
Given we were going to be spending 8 days in Doha, I also wanted somewhere that offered a bit more space – but also at a decent price!
In a city that has recently shot into the spotlight from holding the 2022 World Cup, and which was going to be hosting major events like the F1 Grand Prix, Geneva International Motor Show and Expo Doha during my stay, I did wonder if I was being foolishly hopeful. Then I found Fraser Suites Doha.

The Fraser Hospitality group, which encompasses the Fraser Suites, Fraser Residence, Fraser Place, Capri by Fraser, Modena by Fraser, Malmaison and Hotel du Vin & Bistro brands, has been around for over 25 years, and is primarily known for providing affordable luxury apartment-style accommodation for both short-stay and long-stay guests.
Their properties span four continents, and the group prides itself on being a leader in the high-end serviced-apartment sector. The Fraser Suites brand in particular is all about delivering 5-star service, luxury and excellent facilities for discerning guests.
First impressions & check-in
Before even setting foot in Qatar, my initial email dealings with the Fraser Suites reservations department (and an agent called Mohamed in particular) were excellent. Every question I had (and I had a lot!) was answered promptly and clearly, which is something I value highly. It makes such a difference when you don’t have to repeatedly chase people for responses, because it means you can proceed smoothly with your travel plans, knowing you have the information you need.
After stepping through the front doors (including metal detector and bag X-ray machine) of the modern high-rise building just a block from the Doha Corniche, my first impressions of the property were that it was just as it had been pictured on the website; a big, bright, airy lobby with impressive chandelier above an earthy-coloured lounge area, lots of natural light from the floor-to-ceiling windows, a central indoor garden and extensive buffet restaurant which, at our time of arrival at around 7 am, was just amping up for breakfast.
The normal check-in time is 3 pm, but I had requested an early check-in around 11 am, which they duly arranged – and was greatly appreciated after a 12-hour overnight flight from Australia. The check-in process itself was extremely smooth, handled by the extremely warm and welcoming Karim and Ilham on reception.
They were only too happy to provide us with information about Doha and answer our queries about how to get around, what to see, how to dress etc.. And indeed, throughout our stay, they would always have little chats and ask us about our day whenever we passed by the reception desk.
These are the sorts of personal touches that Fraser Hospitality do so well. They know some people are staying at their properties for extended periods, and you can really see the effort being put in to make sure every guest feels at home. One evening, we even had a platter of patisserie items left in our room as a gift arranged by the guest relations team. Such a lovely little surprise!

The rooms
I had booked 2 Executive Rooms, but, at check-in, I was advised one of the rooms had been upgraded to a Studio Executive, which was a lovely surprise! The Executive Room is essentially more like a hotel room, except that it also has a large bench area and extra kitchenette with microwave and cupboard space.
The floors throughout are tiled and there is an operable window that can be opened if you want outside air in (though, with Doha’s notorious heat, humidity and poor air quality, I can’t guarantee this air will be fresh). This room overlooked Ali Bin Amur Al Attiya Street, where the hotel’s front entrance is, and also had sweeping views of part of the Corniche, the Doha Port and the colourful Mina District.
As the hotel is quite close to the airport, you could also see a few planes taking off and landing. I enjoyed watching the bustling city life down below, and even hearing the Islamic call to prayer every so often. I found both the bed and pillows to be extremely comfortable – not too hard and not too soft. The bathroom had a bidet, toilet, raised sink, bathtub and separate rain-shower cubicle, plus ample shelf and cupboard space.
Fraser Hospitality partners with l’Occitane, so the amenities such as shampoo, conditioner and body lotion were all gorgeous-smelling products made by the luxury French brand. My only gripe with the bathroom was that the shower door did not seem to shut properly, which meant water always leaked out during a shower; I had to put some extra towels on the floor to combat this.
The water in the shower also wasn’t that hot, and I did mention this to reception but by the time they were able to get people around to fix it, it was almost the end of the stay so I didn’t bother with it; when the days are 44°C/111°F, who needs a super hot shower anyway, right?!

The Studio Executive that we got as an upgrade for the second room was huge (70 sq m/538 sq ft). It was only a few doors down from the Executive Room and had the same view, but it was basically double the size. On entry, you stepped straight into an open-plan living/dining area which further expanded into the sleeping area with king bed. SO MUCH room to walk around, put suitcases etc.
It would definitely be adequate for 1-2 people needing a longer stay. Wooden flooring, a pale cream L-shaped sofa with ottoman, and timber-finished tables, cabinetry and wall panelling, accessorised with pops of red in the form of cushions and lamps created a warm, earthy feel, which looked particularly cosy at night.
Unlike the Executive Room, this suite had a full dining table and equipped kitchen. It also had huge amounts of storage space in the drawers lining the main wall in the living room. Conversely, the bathroom seemed a little smaller with just a combined bathtub/shower – but, as there was no shower cubicle, there was also no water leakage!

Dining
The property has an on-site restaurant in the form of the The Dining Room, which serves a comprehensive daily buffet breakfast and dinner. There is also a small but sufficient 24-hour room service menu.
Given we were leading quite a nocturnal lifestyle for much of our time in Doha (a combination of avoiding the heat of the day and being out all evening 3 days in a row attending the F1 Grand Prix), we often had breakfast in our room at slightly odd hours (read as: middayish). Fortunately, it was an all-day breakfast!
The Full English Breakfast option (QAR 95 / US ~$26 in October 2023) was absolutely perfect and set us up for the whole day. It came with fresh juices, coffee, your choice of cereal, milk, fruit, vegetable salad, a bakery basket, sausages, cold meats and your choice of eggs. Two were actually more than enough for 3 people!
We also tried the room service for dinner on several nights and found it to be delicious, with very good serve sizes to boot. Among the offerings were club sandwiches (QAR 70 / US ~$19), chicken burger (QAR 70 / US ~$19), beef burger (QAR 80 / US ~$22), Mexican wraps (QAR 75 / US ~$21 and spaghetti bolognaise (QAR 85 / US ~$23) – they were all good but I have to say the spaghetti was my favourite!

Other facilities
Fraser Suites Doha has a temperature-controlled rooftop pool with cabanas, pod swings, sun loungers, a jacuzzi, poolside refreshments, cool background music and an amazing view of the Doha skyline! There is also space for events such as weddings – I can only imagine what a spectacular venue it would make for a special occasion. There is a ladies-only pool day on Wednesdays from 10am-5pm.
The property additionally has a fully equipped gym, spa & sauna facility, meeting rooms, 24/7 concierge service and exclusive atrium lounges on a few floors. I did not use any of these, however.

Location
Going back to the conundrum I mentioned at the start of this post – about how difficult it can be to find accommodation in a new destination, particularly in terms of location. I really was not sure whether staying in the city area was the right choice, given so many of the luxury hotels are over in West Bay and beyond near the Pearl.
Once I got to Doha, however, I was extremely happy with my decision. Fraser Suites is located right on the Corniche, within walking distance of the instagrammable Mina District (the colourful buildings at the Old Doha Port), Souq Waqif, the Museum of Islamic Art and the National Museum of Qatar.
Even on (very humid) 44°C/111°F days, we were able to walk to all of these in about 15-20 minutes, so we weren’t out in the heat and humidity for very long yet didn’t have to spend any money on public transport or Ubers either.
In cooler weather, these walks would be even more pleasant. Had we been located in West Bay or the Pearl, we would have to have taken some form of transportation to access all of the aforementioned attractions (attractions which, I believe, are among the top things to see in Doha). So I guess it depends on what you’re looking for; if your focus is more on just relaxing at the hotel and going to the beach, those other locations will serve you just fine.
But if you’re wanting to experience a bit more of Doha and some of the amazing sights and architecture it has to offer, then Fraser Suites really cannot be beat. I should also mention, the property is only about a 15-20-minute drive from the airport – so no need to allow excessive amounts of time to get out there on your departure day like you do in some other cities.

Why choose Fraser Suites Doha
So, why choose Fraser Suites Doha when visiting the Qatari capital? Well, quite simply, it ticks all the boxes. Spacious? Tick. Clean? Tick. Great staff? Tick. Affordable? Tick. Well located? Tick.
If these are things that are important to you when choosing somewhere to stay, you really cannot go wrong with Fraser Suites Doha. I definitely recommend it as a perfect base for exploring Qatar’s capital, and would absolutely stay there again.
