7 delicious Perth gelato & ice-cream shops to try

Last Updated on February 20, 2026 by Home in the World

When the days are long, the sun is shining and the hot breeze is blowing, it’s definitely gelato weather. Heck, even in the middle of winter, somehow a gelato always goes down nicely. Because gelato is always a good idea. If you’re up for it (and who wouldn’t be?!), read on to find out where you can enjoy some of Perth’s yummiest ice creams and gelatos. Plus, all of the shops listed include dairy-free/vegan options too.

Gelato Messina, Highgate & East Victoria Park

Gelato Messina had already been serving up ‘the best gelato in Australia’ in the eastern states for a long time before finally hitting Perth’s Beaufort Street in Highgate in late 2023. I ambitiously tried to go the day after it opened, but the lines were so long, I thought I would wait a bit for the hysteria to settle and go at a (hopefully) quieter time.

That’s not to say that the hysteria wasn’t warranted, however, because this place really is like an Aladdin’s cave for gelato. With 40-odd flavours (including vegan, alcohol-free, egg-free, gluten-free and nut-free options, as well as weekly specials), you are definitely going to be spoiled for choice. Think: Salted Caramel & White Chocolate, Tiramisu, Super Dulce de Leche, Strawberries & Cream and Hokey Pokey, just to name a few.

I’m a dairy-free gal, so I made a beeline for the 9 vegan flavours and went for the Chocolate Sorbet. WOW. Mind = blown. Luscious does not even begin to describe it. This was literal chocolate gelato perfection. 11/10. Also pictured are the equally delicious Coffee and Boysenberry options.

The interior fit-out is also worth a mention. I absolutely loved the pistachio-coloured walls, the arches and pendant lights, as well as the eye-catching illuminated display wall with separate compartments showcasing artistically decorated cakes and a gorgeous Messina coffee-table book that I almost bought. All in all, a delightful little shop where super friendly staff serve up utterly mouthwatering delights.

In 2025 they opened a new outlet in East Victoria Park, and, as of 2026, there is also a third outlet in Leederville – just goes to show the hype is real!

  • Gelato Messina, 497 Beaufort Street, Highgate
  • Open daily: Sun-Thu 12-10.30pm, Fri & Sat 12-11pm
  • 893 Albany Highway, East Victoria Park
  • Open daily: Sun-Thu 12-10.30pm, Fri & Sat 12-11pm
  • 741 Newcastle Street, Leederville
  • Sun-Thu 12-10.30pm, Fri & Sat 12-11pm

Kuld Creamery, Northbridge

Run by Kaitlyn & Mati Kuld (the family name is Estonian and means ‘gold’), Kuld’s Northbridge shop opened earlier in 2023, following on from the success of its Fremantle outlet. They have lots of fun, North-American-inspired staple flavours, as well as 5 ever-changing flavours of the month.

In December, for instance, the menu often includes the likes of Rumnog & Raisin, Gingerbread & Spiced Caramel and Maple Butter Tart – to get you into the Christmas spirit! Each flavour is created from scratch, and their vegan offering is made using cashew cream and organic coconut milk.

The Northbridge shop is super cute and intimate with a minimalist neutrals & black colour scheme. Some nights they even have a live DJ spinning beats! This is clearly not your average ice-cream parlour. You can enjoy your scoopfuls of deliciousness in a cup, homemade cone or sandwich – either sitting inside at one of their little tables or outside on some of the stools on Roe Street, watching the world go by.

My Vegan Cookie Dough had just the right mix of creaminess and crunch, and I could definitely taste the subtle coconut undertones. We also tried the Vegan Chocolate and the Double Fudge Brownie – no complaints here! A fantastic little business (did you know they have a Kuld Caravan for pop-up delights as well?) with friendly staff and creative, high-quality products. A great excuse to follow their motto and #LickLocal.

  • Kuld Creamery, 8/10 Roe Street, Northbridge (see website for other locations)
  • Open daily: Mon-Thu 12-11pm, Fri & Sat 11am-12am, Sun 11am-10pm

Gusto Gelato, Elizabeth Quay

‘Handcrafted Happiness’ is this gelateria’s motto – and they’ve certainly hit the nail on the head. Open on three sides, this airy little shop right by the water at Elizabeth Quay will just make you want to stroll right up and indulge your sweet tooth as you take in the vibe at one of Perth’s landmark tourist destinations.

The gelatos here are made so authentically, the production techniques applied by gelatiere Sean Lee are actually those he learned in Bologna; traditional, artisanal, bellisimo! In fact, acclaimed Perth food writer Rob Broadfield consider them the best gelato he’s tasted outside of Italy.

While I sadly can’t claim to have tried enough gelatos in Italy to compare, I did totally rate their Dark Chocolate offering (which also happened to be vegan). Very creamy and delectably chocolatey.

My friend also enjoyed his choice of the rich Choc Fudge Brownie. Along with a number of other decadent chocolate & nutty options, there are of course also fruity varieties such as Mango, Sour Cherry and Raspberry, or you can go for a mix of the two with something like the Strawberry & Dark Chocolate.

I was pleased to see a number of vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options – because a gelato experience should always be inclusive, right?

So if you find yourself at Elizabeth Quay enjoying the fireworks or summer vibes these next few months, definitely consider washing it all down with a delicious, refreshing gelato from Gusto. But also know they have additional locations in Leederville and East Victoria Park if those work better for you.

  • Gusto Gelato, 5 Geoffrey Bolton Ave, Perth (see website for other locations)
  • Open daily: 11am-10pm

Cuccini Gelato, Northbridge

This cute hole-in-the-wall shop with white and pastel pink colour scheme is exactly what you’d expect an ice-cream parlour to look like. While it might be small, you won’t be able to miss it because there is almost always a throng of people flocking to it. It’s definitely a busy little place, which is usually a good sign.

With a range of gelatos and sorbettos to choose from (everything from staples like Chocolate, Strawberry and Coffee to more exotic offerings like Saffron Pistachio and Avocado & Lime), it certainly is a treasure trove of yumminess. They have also been known to do collaborations with the likes of Croff Bakehouse to create a tantalising gelato-filled croissant!

We sampled the Dark Chocolate sorbetto and Rum & Raisin gelato and wow, they sure bulged out of the cup. The Rum & Raisin had a well balanced flavour – you could certainly get those pops of rum! And the Dark Chocolate was as creamy and chocolatey without being overly rich. You’d certainly never guess it was dairy-free!

Hang out inside the buzzing little parlour or grab a seat and watch the world go by on eclectic William Street in the heart of Northbridge. Having opened in early 2023, Cuccini is definitely a great addition to the Perth gelato scene.

  • Cuccini Gelato, 276 William Street, Northbridge (see website for other locations)
  • Open daily: 12-10pm (Fri & Sat until 11pm)

Whisk Creamery, Subiaco

Just a few doors down from Cuccini on William Street is Whisk Creamery, which happens to have a very cute piece of ice-cream-related street art on one of its walls inside (see first picture). I was already gelato’d out for the day, but Whisk’s offering looked so good I made a mental note to check them out another day.

Turns out they also have a shop in Subiaco, which is where I eventually ended up going. Their schtick is artisanal gelatos and creative desserts, and you certainly can get creative designing your own gelato with a wide range of interesting toppings, sauces, cone shapes and even a mermaid tail.

It was a hot day so I just went for something simple and fruity in the form of the Mango & Passionfruit Sorbet. Wow, the single scoop in a cup was HUGE! A towering yellow swirl of deliciousness. A great mix of the two flavours, and thoroughly refreshing.

And if you can’t decide whether you want to go hot or cold, no worries, because Whisk also does affogatos (not to mention croinut sandwiches, smoothies, milkshakes, coffees and iced teas). We tried one such affogato and yes, would 100% recommend. Don’t forget to check out the fridge inside either, because they also sell tubs to go.

  • Whisk Creamery, 151 Rokeby Road, Subiaco (see website for other locations)
  • Open daily: Mon-Thu 12-9.30pm, Fri 12-10.30pm, Sat 11am-10.30pm, Sun 11am-9.30pm

Pietro Gelateria, Inglewood

This modern Sicilian gelateria on the corner of Beaufort Street and Eighth Avenue in Inglewood is all about natural ingredients and local community. As soon as you step through the door, you’ll notice the contemporary-meets-retro vibe, where chequered-tile floors, wooden tables and diner-style seating are coupled with minimalist ice-cream art on emerald green walls.

There are 12 permanent flavours, which include staples like Hazelnut, Pistachio and Vanilla, but also feature more unique combinations such as Lavender & Earl Grey; Ricotta, Orange & Dark Chocolate; and Coffee & Salted Caramel.

Their dairy-free options are Dark Chocolate and Coconut Pandan. Plus, each month they have an alternating flavour series with an additional 4-6 offerings. When I visited in November, for example, it was an Indian theme, serving up delights such as Mango Lassi, Kulfi and Golden Milk.

We tried the Mint Stracciatella, Pistachio and Dark Chocolate. My dairy-free Dark Chocolate was TO DIE FOR. So decadent, so creamy, so chocolatey. Just yum – it really felt like a moment of indulgence. Just insanely good.

By all accounts, the Mint Stracciatella and Pistachio were delicious too; they certainly looked and smelled it. In addition to this Inglewood shop, Pietro also has an outlet in East Victoria Park, as well as its Laboratorio in Northbridge. I would highly recommend checking out at least one of them and treating yourself to the scrumptious gelatos they (literally) churn out fresh every day.

  • Pietro Gelateria, 861 Beaufort Street, Inglewood (see website for other locations)
  • Open daily: Sun-Thu 10am-10pm, Fri-Sat 10am-10.30pm

The Vault Restaurant, Kalamunda

This one I just stumbled upon by accident. Having gone up to Kalamunda for the artisan markets, I happened to notice a little gelato window on my way out. Turns out it belonged to The Vault Restaurant, an award-winning Italian restaurant owned and run by head chef Angelo Bruno. The open window looked so inviting and quaintly European that I just had try one of the gelatos it was advertising.

We went for the Passionfruit (dairy-free), Strawberry (dairy-free) and Pistachio, which were scooped up by 2 extremely friendly staff members. All three were beautifully refreshing, but I reckon my Passionfruit was the best of them all (I might be biased, though).

The Vault might not be on your Perth gelato radar – it certainly wasn’t on mine – but if you find yourself in Kalamunda, definitely consider checking them out. Just look for the window on Central Mall off Haynes Street; you likely won’t miss the picture of the lime-green Vespa on the back wall!

Found your favourite Perth gelato shop yet?

I’m well aware the above list is but a handful of chocolate sprinkles atop the dollop of creamy goodness that is Perth’s gelato scene, but hopefully it’s enough to get you started as we move into our long, hot summer.
