So you’ve finally decided to make that bucket-list trip to Egypt, and one of your main stops will no doubt be Cairo to enjoy the many amazing experiences and ancient wonders it offers. But the Egyptian capital is a huge, sprawling megapolis of over 10 million people, its greater area also encompassing the Giza Plateau, home to the famed pyramids.
This begs the question of where to stay in Cairo, or indeed whether to stay in the city itself at all. If your main priority for visiting Cairo is to be within easy access of the pyramids while also indulging in a bit of luxury, then I recommend reading my review below to find out why the Hyatt Regency Cairo West may well be a perfect option for you.
Arrival & first impressions
As is often the case, my first dealings with the hotel came in the form of email communication with the reservations department. Based on my excellent experience there and everything I had seen online, I had high expectations.
After the hour-long drive from Cairo airport, we pulled up to what was veritably an oasis of palm-tree lined avenues leading to the main entrance. The Hyatt Regency Cairo West is situated within the Pyramid Heights Business Park, and there are consequently a couple of security checkpoints before the hotel can even be accessed.

Any cars going in or out of the park are inspected by officers and sniffed by dogs, and indeed even upon arrival at the hotel, all bags and guests are X-rayed. Don’t let this be a cause of concern for you; it is actually quite common practice at other sites around Cairo and, in fact the Middle East in general (I had also experienced it in Qatar and Jordan, for example).
All the security staff were extremely friendly, and the whole process barely took a couple of minutes. It is honestly reassuring to know everyone within the grounds has been security-cleared, and I frankly wish more hotels around the world did this.
Stepping beyond the security check-point and into the fragrant-smelling lobby is when the wow factor starts. The Hyatt Regency Cairo West sure creates an amazing first impression. Having only opened in 2021, it definitely feels like a shiny new property. Every surface is immaculate.
I absolutely loved the light, earthy tones, multi-level design, sleek furnishings and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the water features and palm trees outside, not to mention the self-playing grand piano.
It is really clear that the interior concept by DesignLab draws not only on Egyptian culture but also on the warm tones and textures of the local surroundings, namely the Giza Plateau. The luxury oasis vibes are strong!

The room/suite
The Hyatt Regency Cairo West is a low-rise property approximately 5 storeys high, and indeed we didn’t even need to take the lift to access our room, as we were at pool level.
The room I speak of was a Regency Executive Suite, which consisted of a large, living and dining/kitchenette area, separate king-bedded master bedroom and 1.5 bathrooms. The overall feel was one of modern minimalism: functional furnishings, uncarpeted floors (softened by low-pile rugs) and a number of bare walls, especially in the living area.
And, much like the property’s common areas, the in-room colour palette was once again inspired by earthy tones of beige and soft grey, with pops of blue to complement the pool waters and sunny skies outside the window.

Wood-framed sliding doors partitioned the master bedroom from both the living area and the ensuite bathroom to create a zen-like vibe. Said bathroom constituted a vast, elongated space of its own, with marble shower cubicle, table-style vanity (granite top, wooden legs), separate toilet cubicle (albeit with semi-transparent door) and substantial storage and wardrobe space (including safe).
One end opened onto the master bedroom while the other was accessible from the living area. There was also a small toilet & washbasin cubicle running off the living area near the front door – but be warned, the door was also semi-transparent, so you can kind of see the person sitting on the toilet!

Another notable quirk was the absence of lamps in the living area (ceiling lights only) and bedside drawers in the bedroom (the bedside tables were purely tables). But the level of overall comfort was nonetheless beyond reproach. The bed was so plush (perhaps thanks to the Hyatt Luxury Eurotop mattress?) and everything felt new, clean and spacious – more than enough room for 2-4 adults. This really is understated, contemporary Egyptian luxury.
While there was no balcony, there were operable windows in both the living room and bedroom to let fresh air in – it is worth noting, however, that many rooms (including ours) overlook the pool and there may be some noise/music during the daytime if you keep your window open.
I would also recommend keeping your curtains drawn at night when lights are on, as the window tinting alone does not provide total privacy. The plus side is, you get to enjoy relaxing views of pristine waters and dreamy palms – when I said the oasis vibes were strong, I meant it!

The Regency Executive Suite comes with full Regency Club benefits, which I will mention in more detail further on. And while some rooms are billed as having ‘pyramid views’, I wouldn’t have super high expectations of this, as the pyramids are still quite a way in the distance (just keeping things real here).
Dining
Given the Hyatt Regency Cairo West is located somewhat remotely on the Giza plateau, there are no other dining options in the vicinity, so you will likely be eating at the hotel unless you have chosen to eat elsewhere while out and about in the city.
The Park Food Hall is the main, casual restaurant. I did not try it for dinner but this was where we enjoyed a comprehensive buffet breakfast every morning. It is a very large space with ample indoor and outdoor seating (I personally loved starting my day off basking in the soft Egyptian sunshine).

The range of food and drink on offer was sensational – from the delicious sweets, spreads, juices, milks (including non-dairy options) and cereals at the entrance, to the extensive bakery section, to the abundant fresh fruits and salads, to the excellent variety of hot dishes (roast vegetables, falafel, baked beans, hash browns, sausages, bacon etc.), to the separate chef station preparing eggs, omelettes and pancakes to order.
All of the staff members here were incredibly friendly and professional. It was such a joy to be greeted by their big smiles and warm welcomes every morning – the perfect start to the day.

If you have booked a suite, you will also get free access to the Regency Club, which provided a quiet lounge to relax, watch television or work in, coupled with various snack offerings throughout the day.
We often partook in the evening happy hour and canapés, which were delicious and amply replenished. They were different almost every day, with savoury options including prawn cocktails, mini pizzas, roast meats and vegetarian spring rolls, and the desserts an ever-changing array of colourful, exquisitely presented mousse cakes and other delectable treats.

There are several other restaurants and bars on the premises, namely Barranco, which serves Japanese-Peruvian fusion cuisine (we did not try this); The Lounge Bar, which is the perfect place to unwind in the upscale setting of the lower lobby, The Pool Bar, serving drinks and light refreshments poolside; and The Plaza, which is adjacent to The Market and is the place to be if you’re looking to enjoy a drink and soak up shisha vibes under the stars, ensconced in the plush sunken lounges to the backdrop of live entertainment. All the performers I heard there were excellent, mostly performing covers of popular, easy-listening music.

Other facilities
For handy bits and pieces, there is The Market (a minimart-cum-café in the lobby area) selling snacks and convenience items. There is also a small supermarket outside the hotel, but still within the Pyramids Heights complex (just a very short distance from the main entrance). While I did not use these options myself, it was good to know they were available, given the hotel is located quite far from the city and any other shops.

On the lower level of the lobby is a small lounge area with floor-to-ceiling bookshelf. I was admiring the books one day and, upon spotting a price list, realised they were actually for sale! They were primarily coffee-table and reference books (varying in age and condition) on topics such as Egypt, the Islamic world, general history, archaeology etc.
And so it was that I found myself carting a huge and heavy coffee-table book on the Islamic art treasures of Cairo’s museums all the way back to Australia with me. Sometimes I just can’t help myself! I definitely recommend having a browse, as there were some truly fascinating publications that I’m sure would make great talking points in your home.

The Hyatt Regency Cairo West also has the year-round outdoor pool (with pool bar) I mentioned earlier, and which many rooms overlook. As you would expect from this standard of luxury hotel, there was additionally a spa, business centre and gym, though I did not try any of these.

Location
I have referred to the fact that, despite its name, the Hyatt Regency Cairo West is actually located in Giza, which is effectively a satellite city and plateau on the outskirts of Cairo, and is famously where the pyramids are located.
If you’re looking to be right amongst all the hustle and bustle (some may call it chaos) of the Egyptian capital, this is not the hotel for you. It is about a half-hour drive out of the city, and about an hour’s drive from the airport (bear this in mind with your arrival and departure flight times).
If, on the other hand, your main priority is to be close to the pyramids (about a 15-minute drive), in a more tranquil setting away from the hubbub, yet still a relatively short drive away for day excursions to Cairo, you cannot go wrong.
And if safety is a concern for you (though I assure you there is no reason for it), you may also prefer this property’s more secluded location. As mentioned earlier, it is part of the lush and leafy Pyramids Heights complex, which is home to a university and several other administrative buildings. There are multiple security checks of all vehicles entering, and the whole precinct felt like a veritable oasis.

Why choose the Hyatt Regency Cairo West
Having spent nearly a week at this hotel, I can wholeheartedly say it was an extremely comfortable place to stay. Spotlessly clean and new, extremely secure, spacious rooms, excellent food quality and dining options, unbelievably friendly and professional local staff (everyone from reservations & reception, to housekeeping, to the club lounge to the restaurant), tranquil location near the pyramids and stunning public areas.
If you’re giving yourself the bucket-list experience of visiting Egypt and seeing the ancient wonders that are the pyramids, definitely consider treating yourself and spending a few nights at this gorgeous property. While it is a luxury 5-star property and therefore generally at the pricier end of the scale, they do also have good offers available (see booking options below). You absolutely will not regret it!

Thank you 🙂 It definitely is a fabulous option for anyone wanting to stay nearer to the pyramids but still enjoy an oasis atmosphere.
I am sure it was a lovely stay. The experience of staying with a brand like Hyatt definitely adds up.
Indeed it was a lovely stay, especially thanks to the amazing staff. Hyatt does have a number of different brands for varying budgets, and being part of their World of Hyatt helps you get cheaper stays too. This property was definitely at the higher end of the scale but I decided to lash out for a few days since it was a bucket-list trip.
This looks like an awesome hotel to stay at in Ciaro! Love to hear that you feel like it has a good cost to value because sometimes expensive hotels feel like a waste.
It was a lovely property! Yes indeed, I totally agree. I did feel like, for where you were and the service they provided, it was decent value for money if you’re looking for a bit of luxury, space and tranquility.
It looks like a beautiful hotel! I love Hyatt Regency’s. I’ll definitely keep this location in mind for when I eventually visit Cairo!
It is a stunning property, especially as it’s still quite new. If you like Hyatt Regencys, you will definitely love this one. I hope you get to visit Cairo soon; it’s a very unique city!
What a lovely place! When I was in Cairo, I stayed at the Hilton, which is more downtown, right by the Egyptian Museum. But I think it would have been cool to stay in Giza. Next time!
Oh yes, I know it! That’s a great location for downtown. Some people might even like to do a mix of the 2 and stay a few nights at both properties. I think that would also be a good option.
