Is this Perth’s most Instagrammable café?

Last Updated on January 10, 2026 by Home in the World

With the Perth café scene continuing to evolve and Instagram remaining one of the most widely used social-media platforms in the world, due in no small part to its highly visual focus, the competition for the coveted title of ‘Perth’s most Instagrammable café’ is as fierce as ever.

It is of course a very subjective topic, but it is probably impossible to utter the words ‘Perth’ and ‘Instagrammable café’ without also mentioning the Gemini Café (which itself has a not-too-shabby 14.3K followers) in the same breath. Why? Keep scrolling to find out.

Located in the very heart of Perth at 66 St George’s Terrace, right near the crosswalk by London Court, it’s pretty difficult to miss – not least because of its bright orange décor that also extends to its outdoor tables and chairs. And while it may not look especially Instagrammable from the exterior, it certainly makes up for its ‘Instagrammableness’ (we’re inventing words today) with what it serves up to its patrons.

There’s a dizzying array of photogenic drinks, cakes and savoury snacks to choose from, plus they also do high teas. We were there specifically for the drinks and cakes. Between perusing the menu and checking out the fantastical offerings in their display cabinet inside, here’s what we went for:

The food (and drink)

The Straw-Beary Cake, delicately created as a sleepy pink teddy bear made from strawberry mousse, with strawberry jam insert, caramelised pistachios and vanilla sponge. Too cute to eat! We initially felt quite bad dismembering him – but the guilt soon wore off when we realised how delicious it was.

The Mocha Tub – perhaps the most elaborate of the items we ordered. It consisted of a mini bathtub containing a double scoop of dark-chocolate ice cream with an ‘ice cutie’ and pink teddy biscuits, served with a double espresso. The brown teddy-shaped ‘ice cutie’ was ‘bathing’ in the chocolate ice cream, surrounded by ‘foam’ in the form of crushed pink biscuit crumbs. Joining him in the tub were two other pink biscuit teddies. And of course there was the espresso to douse them all down.

While this was certainly super cute and artistic, it was probably let down a bit by the ice cream, which tasted like it had just come from the most basic of brands you would find in a supermarket. I would say the Mocha Tub is more about aesthetics than taste, so if Instagramming your food is your jam, it will be right up your alley; maybe just lower your expectations a little for the taste.

Next up, the vegan Avocado Cake, made from avocado cashew mousse, vegan sponge and a dark chocolate shell. Cleverly created to look like half an avocado, complete with giant ‘seed’ (read as: chocolate), this is the Gemini Café’s only vegan/dairy-free offering, but it is delicious.

And finally, I washed it down with a Galaxy Passionfruit Lemonade. Definitely photo-worthy, with its own pale blue ‘ice cutie’ (some kind of teddy shape, from what I could tell), fresh lemon and vibrant colour – a gradient ranging from bright magenta at the top, to vivid orange in the middle, to a rich golden at the bottom. It had a very discernible passionfruit flavour, and was very refreshing overall.

Among the display-cabinet offerings we didn’t try, but which were equally eye-catching in the cute and quirky way they had been made, were mini cakes in the forms of perfectly shaped peaches, lemons and mushrooms. They really were little works of art, so big props to the chef

You can see some video footage of everything we had by watching my TikTok video (yes, I see the irony here, but, for the purposes of this post, we’ll say that ‘Instagrammable’ can refer to posting on any social-media platform; ‘TikTokable’ sounds a bit weird..).

So, is the Gemini Café Perth’s most Instagrammable café?

The Gemini Café certainly gets a high score for the creativity that has been put into the food and drinks it serves. Even if you’re not someone who likes to take photos of their food, it’s kind of hard not to do so here, because it really is all so quirky and unique. I would say that, for the size of the serves, the prices are a little high, but I guess you are also paying for the aesthetics and skill involved.

If you’re looking for a fun dining experience in inner-city Perth (and can also bear the trauma of decapitating unsuspecting sponge teddies), you may want to add the Gemini Café to your list. Can it officially be labelled Perth’s most Instagrammable café? You be the judge. But I defy you to not take at least one photo of your food when you’re there (and post it on the ‘Gram).
